Clean hydrogen deployment in the Europe-MENA region from 2030 to 2050: A technical and socio-economic assessment

The production and import of clean hydrogen across the EU-MENA region has substantial potential. However, a critical assessment of production, supply, import, storage and infrastructure developments and requirements is needed, to gain in-depth insights into the feasibility of unlocking this potential.

A new Fraunhofer study, in cooperation with Geostock, sheds light on the different aspects of the EU-MENA hydrogen potential. Join us for our online session to get the study results firsthand in a nutshell and hear an expert‘s discussion on further implications.

We are looking forward to your participation.

Erika Niino-Esser

Business Developer and Technical Specialist for Hydrogen and Green Chemicals at thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions in Abu Dhabi. Passionate about creating a sustainable world based on green hydrogen and chemicals; and enjoying the interface between people (business developer) and technology (development engineer).

Mario Ragwitz

One of the institute directors of the Fraunhofer IEG. He is the speaker of the Fraunhofer Hydrogen Network, which coordinates the work of 35 institutes in this topic area. In addition, as scientific director of Fraunhofer CINES, he coordinates the joint research of eight Fraunhofer institutes in the topic area of the transformation of the energy system.

Jan Frederik Braun

Senior Expert on Hydrogen Economy and Policy in the MENA Region at Fraunhofer CINES. As a researcher, he is involved in various CINES projects with stakeholders from industry and politics. These aim to achieve a rapid and international market introduction of hydrogen technologies along the value chain.

Lecturer at multiple universities with more than eight years of experience. Expertise in energy, the Middle East, development, petroleum, operations research, policy, rural electrification, and business development.

Richard Schmitz

Research associate at Fraunhofer IEE in the Department of Energy Economics and Systems Analysis. His focus is on sector coupling between the electricity, heat and transport sectors in long-term climate protection scenarios. To this end, he is continuously developing Fraunhofer IEE's SCOPE model family in particular.

Felix Frischmuth

Research associate at Fraunhofer IEE in the Department of Energy Economics and Systems Analysis. His research focuses on sector coupling between the electricity, heat, transport and gas sectors in long-term climate protection scenarios, e.g. with a focus on the transport sector and the role of hydrogen in future European energy markets.
